Welcome

Introduction from the Commissioner

We have a clear mission for policing London.
We will deliver More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards.

There is an urgent and critical need for us to rebuild the Met to be an organisation that London, our officer and staff can believe in.

This ambition will only be achieved through some of the strongest and most innovative leadership the Met has ever seen. Leaders at every level must understand their critical and pivotal role in delivering a radically new Met for London. They must embody the principles and values set out in our New Met for London (MNfL) plan New Met for London, putting communities and our frontline back at the heart of everything we do.

We are focused on three key areas of reform: community crime-fighting, culture change, and fixing our foundations. How we lead in the most effective way across these areas and beyond is paramount. London needs to know we’re delivering on the things they care about, and our workforce need to be set up to successfully carry out some of the most difficult jobs day in day out.

You’ll play a key role in delivering our vision, setting clear direction and embedding a culture that builds public and organisational confidence. We need leaders who pave the way for tens of thousands of outstanding officers and staff and enable the delivery of policing and a service London can be proud of.

London is one of the most diverse cities in the world and a fantastic place to serve. You will need a strong understanding of the capital’s context and our different communities, and the ability to lead in an ever-changing environment with national and international impact.

We also have an increasingly in-demand workforce facing one of the most challenging periods of policing. They, like I, are determined to rebuild Londoners’ trust in the Met, but to do that they need the right kit, buildings, training, shift patterns and leaders.

I hope you will consider applying for the Met – an extraordinary place to work – with national responsibilities to protect the country from terrorism through to working with our local communities to tackle the issues that matter most to them.

The renewal of the vision of policing by consent is more important than ever. With a clear mission and the right top team, I am confident we will deliver on our bold ambitions.

Sir Mark Rowley, QPM.

Introduction from AC Twist, Met Operations and Performance

The Met’s mission is clear – to deliver more trust; less crime and high standards in policing one of the largest and most diverse Capital cities in the world.  Reform is underway at pace and we are delivering against the commitments to we made to Londoners to build a New Met for London. However, we know we have much more to do.

That is where you come in. I am looking for someone who can ensure that forensics are at the heart of how we reduce and prevent crime; how we build trust amongst Londoners and support our officers to use cutting edge science in the fight against crime.

Innovation and bringing outside thinking in will help make even further progress against our priorities of community crime fighting; culture change and fixing our own foundations. I need a credible senior voice who can influence policy across the Met and nationally in policing and within government. These are hugely important times for forensic science, as we seek to adjust to the demand of the increasing complexity and volume of digital forensics, whilst maintaining the highest standards of delivery in traditional forensics at the same time as balancing significant regulatory changes. You will need to not be bound by silo’s or how things have always been done. In a challenging financial environment you will need to work across forensics and all business areas to deliver results, keep up with technology and new techniques and deliver outstanding results.

The Met is the UK’s largest police force, so it’s natural we have a scale and complexity like no other. Our service spans from the very hyper local – aspiring to local policing where communities know the names of their police teams – to the national – protecting the country from the threat of terrorism. All of that is done under immense scrutiny, which can place us on the world stage.

We are a Met that is reforming.  A Met where our people do extraordinary things every day.  A Met that wants to set its people to truly succeed and to support our frontline, so they can focus their efforts on making a difference to the public. This is your opportunity to play a part in our reform and our journey.

As our Director of Forensic Services you will work with all of our most senior leaders and be a trusted adviser to the Commissioner and Board. You will bring your expertise to shape and oversee the delivery of Met forensic services, leading a team of over 1300 specialists to provide critical service to London and specialist advice and services nationally, ensuring maximum impact and alignment with the strategic direction and priorities of the New Met for London plan.

You will deliver on operational New Met for London priorities: increase our intervention, contribution and speed in support of public protection investigations, deliver proactive and enhanced services to reduce harm caused by target offenders, maintain and improve critical services to homicide and counter-terrorism investigations, increase our contribution to acquisitive crime investigations where this leads to positive outcomes and maintain the high quality and reliability of our activities and our findings.

Now is the time to join the Met and help us deliver more trust, less crime and high standards. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Assistant Commissioner, Matt Twist
