Welcome

Welcome from the Chair

Thank you for your interest in the position of Chief Executive of the Mayor’s Fund for London.

We’re an independent, London charity, championing opportunities for young Londoners from low income backgrounds. Since we were founded in 2008, we have supported over 300,000 young people, latterly concentrating our efforts on three impact areas: tackling food insecurity and increasing wellbeing; boosting attainment and confidence in maths; building employability and entrepreneurship. Over three quarters of the young people we support are from black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds.

We are looking for a confident, dynamic and inspirational leader, who is as comfortable addressing a group of young Londoners as with engaging corporate leaders or potential donors. The successful candidate will be an experienced manager, able to develop teams, support staff and focus on performance. We are an ambitious organisation, wishing to increase our scale of impact, with a preference for growth through partnership and collaboration. We are acutely aware of the impact of Covid-19 on both the day-to-day experience and longer-term prospects of many young Londoners, and we want our next CEO to be ambitious for both our charity and our beneficiaries’ prospects in turn.

You would be joining the Mayor’s Fund at an exciting time. Under the leadership of our outgoing CEO, we have navigated the Covid-19 storm well, evolving our services and campaign activities to meet the needs of young Londoners. We have also performed well financially, with a diverse range of income streams (grant, contracted and earned) supporting our organisation. We have a strong staff team and are commencing a new three-year strategy (on which you would be able to put your stamp).

We are particularly interested in individuals who have experience of growing the profile of their organisation, along with increasing scale and impact, either as an existing CEO or as a senior director.  We suspect that you’ll be experienced in fundraising and income generation and may well be entrepreneurial in outlook, whilst demonstrating sound management skills.

We are open-minded as to your professional background , but would expect you to demonstrate a good understanding of how the charity sector works, along with an affinity for our cause. We are also particularly welcoming of applications from candidates with backgrounds similar to those of the young people we support.

We are extremely fortunate to benefit from our close relationship with the Greater London Authority, with whom we are co-located, plus the support of our patron, the Mayor of London. We also benefit from the support of our independent Board of Trustees who are highly engaged and committed to our cause.

We hope we have provided a good insight into this opportunity, to help you consider your application and we look forward to hearing from you in due course.
