Trustee – Strategic Partnerships & Philanthropy Focal Point

The ideal candidate will have:

  • The ability to identify and leverage opportunities in both traditional and non-traditional markets.
  • A relevant network of philanthropic, private sector or donor contacts, especially in emerging global regions such as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Experience with or understanding of humanitarian, development, or peacebuilding contexts is not essential, though an interest and willingness to lean would be valuable.
  • A strategic mindset, collaborative working style, and a deep commitment to MAG’s mission of protecting lives and building safer futures.

Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and leadership to the charity in the pursuit of its strategies to fulfil its charitable purposes. As a Trustee, you will use your skills and experience to shape MAG’s future direction to achieve our lifesaving mission.

MAG trustees are required to execute the following duties as part of the Board of Trustees:

  • Act in MAG’s best interests, ensuring it operates within its charitable objectives, its governing document, charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Set and review strategic direction, approve MAG’s annual budget and plans and monitor progress against them.
  • Support and guide MAG’s vision and mission, ensuring that our values are reflected in our external work as much as our internal culture.
  • Ensure the effective management of risk and of resources, as well as have oversight of the financial health and good governance of MAG.
  • Provide support and constructive challenge to the Leadership Team to ensure the delivery of MAG’s mission and implementation of its strategic framework.
  • Bring personal experience and professional expertise, skills and insight to the Board; contribute to key strategic discussions within MAG and to specific initiatives using your skills and expertise; and be a member of at least one Committee.
  • Lead MAG’s drive for greater equity, representation and diversity across everything it does. Keep informed about MAG’s activities and wider issues which affect its work.
  • Safeguard the good name and values of MAG, and promote the success of MAG.
  • Support the Board Chair with the periodic appointment of new Trustees; approve recommendations for Committee members; and take collective responsibility for the appointment of a new Board Chair, as and when required.
  • Visit a MAG country programme during your first three-year term of office.

You will be able to:

  • Demonstrate passion for and commitment to MAG’s vision, mission and values.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while contributing an independent perspective, providing support, rigour and challenge.
  • Bring or develop an understanding of the humanitarian context and principles in which MAG operates, and a willingness to learn more.
  • Have an interest and willingness to devote the necessary time and effort required for the role.
  • Attend and play an active part in the Trustees’ meetings and deliberations.
  • Demonstrate previous Board/Leadership experience; this is desirable, not essential.
