Our Appointment Requirements

This is a time of significant change and challenge for higher education and we are seeking new Governors to join our Board at this exciting time.

We seek candidates who have an interest in higher education; are highly committed to the role and, through delivery of our Town House Strategy, share the University’s passion for educating students to enable them to reach their full potential, and ultimately shape society positively.

The Role:

  • The Board of Governors is responsible for setting the educational character, mission and strategic vision of the University. Governors work with the Vice-Chancellor and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the University’s success in a rapidly changing and competitive higher education environment.
  • The Board monitors performance against core objectives and oversees the effective and efficient use of resources by providing appropriate support, guidance and constructive challenge to the Vice-Chancellor and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • The role is voluntary and unpaid, but Governors can reclaim travel and subsistence at University rates.
  • Governors must be over 18 years of age.

The Candidate:

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following skills, experience and knowledge:

  • an interest in higher education and share the University’s mission, vision and values.
  • experience of working at a senior level in business, the public or voluntary sectors. We are particularly interested at this point in time in recruiting new governors with experience in human resources; the third sector; the creative industries; and working within a regulator or a regulatory environment. However, this list is not exclusive and we are also open to considering candidates from other fields who can add value to the Board and its work.
  • leadership experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a good understanding of governance.
  • You will bring innovative perspectives, a collaborative approach, and will be willing to constructively challenge when needed.
  • You are able to commit to providing the equivalent of up to 15 days per annum to attend and prepare for meetings, panels and for other University events.
