The role of Chair of the Board at Kiln Theatre is a multifaceted and pivotal position responsible for ensuring the theatre’s sustainability, adherence to its vision, and achievement of agreed targets. The Chair provides leadership to the Board, guides the Executive team, engages with stakeholders, and fosters relationships with the artistic and executive directors. They are also tasked with advocating for the organisation, fundraising, and promoting diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Chair Board meetings effectively, ensuring proper governance and scrutiny.
  • Oversee robust business plan and financial affairs.
  • Help lead the theatre’s fundraising efforts, with individuals, corporates and trusts with the potential to play a role in building and joining a Development Council.
  • Ensure diverse contributions within the Board for effective decision-making.
  • Oversee induction and annual appraisal processes for Board members.
  • Support and challenge the Executive team to deliver ambitious plans.
  • Uphold exemplary ethical standards in the organisation’s conduct.

Time Commitment and Terms

  • Estimated commitment of two/three days per month.
  • Initial three-year term, renewable for another three years.
  • Voluntary and unremunerated position.
