Welcome Letter

JRF is seeking an exceptional individual to join our Investment Committee and play a pivotal role in shaping our transformative agenda for wealth stewardship, ethical investing, and social change.

About Us:

JRF is an independent social change organisation, fueled by a vision of a more equitable and just future. We tirelessly work to accelerate this transition, striving for a world free from poverty where people and planet can thrive.

The Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity to join a diverse and dedicated team actively shaping a more equitable and just future. You’ll bring your expertise and passion for social change to bear on our investment strategy and broader mission-related work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Challenge and guide the Committee on asking tough questions about the sources of our wealth, how it perpetuates inequities, and how investment decisions can actively address these imbalances.
  • Champion ethical and mission-aligned investment strategies that directly contribute to our mission of crafting a poverty-free world.
  • Shape the Foundation’s future mission-related work by advising on how our investments can further our social change goals and support communities grappling with poverty.
  • Become an anti-racist organisation by examining potential biases in our investment decisions and organisational processes.
  • Contribute to building a shared understanding amongst Trustees on the responsibilities and ethical implications of being wealth holders in the Foundation sector.
  • Be an independent steward, protecting the interests of JRF by actively contributing to strategy formulation, discussions on investment policy, oversight of investment activities and assessment of portfolio performance ensuring that the funds are managed in accordance with their stated investment objectives and policies.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Proven track record in mission-aligned, sustainable and ethical investing, impact investing, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated commitment and expertise in social change issues, with a deep understanding of systemic inequalities and potential solutions.
  • Broad asset management experience, portfolio management, investment strategy development and performance management.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, coupled with the ability to ask challenging questions and navigate complex issues.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration and consensus building in diverse settings.
  • Independent and independent-minded, with a passion for ethical leadership and transformative change.
  • Understanding of the UK charity sector and relevant governance frameworks.

Benefits:

  • This is a voluntary role with a time commitment of four days per year, plus additional preparation/engagement, for formal IC meetings.  During the current endowment and investment strategy development work, additional time contribution on a ‘task & finish’ or ad-hoc basis may be required.
  • Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
  • The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people affected by poverty.
  • Work alongside passionate Trustees and staff members who share your values and commitment to social change.
