Role Description – Trustees

Trustees help shape long-term strategy, ensure good governance, oversee organisational performance and financial sustainability, support and challenge the executive team and act as ambassadors for the Institute of Imagination. Beyond formal meetings, we hope trustees will actively contribute ideas, introductions and advocacy aligned with their expertise.

Time Commitment

  • Four Board meetings each year.
  • Participation in one committee.
  • Annual strategy day.
  • Attendance at selected events.
  • Mentor one Senior Leadership Team member 1h per month.
  • Offer support, introductions and advice aligned to expertise.

Join Us

We are building a Board that reflects the diversity, creativity and ambition of the communities we serve. If you believe imagination can transform children’s lives and want to help shape one of the UK’s most innovative charities during its next phase of growth, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Board We Are Building

Rather than recruiting three isolated specialists, we are intentionally building a complementary Board. Together, our new trustees will bring governance, finance, education, philanthropy, lived experience, systems thinking and strategic leadership.

Across all appointments we are seeking people with:

  • Excellent strategic judgement and commitment to good governance.
  • Passion for improving outcomes for children.
  • Curiosity, humility and systems thinking.
  • Emotional intelligence and collaborative leadership.
  • Willingness to contribute time, networks and expertise.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and children’s participation.
  • Ambassadorial qualities and the confidence to support and challenge constructively.

We particularly welcome candidates whose lived experience reflects the communities we serve.
