Person Specification – Executive Director, Research and Innovation

Essential

Leadership

  • Senior leadership experience with a demonstrable track record of a proactive, creative and rigorous approach to policy engaged research.
  • Proven experience of board-level contribution to influencing and shaping organisational strategy and development (Desirable: within think tanks, institutes, or similar environments).
  • Excellent people management and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with senior policy experts and practitioners and to lead and collaborate across highly committed and talented teams.

Research and Innovation

  • Strong programme manager with a demonstrable track record of shaping and delivering programmes of research within think tanks, institutes, or similar policy environments.
  • Strong external profile and network across government, policy, or academic communities and a proven track record of developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships with senior political and official stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods and evidence of exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Knowledge and Motivation

  • Sophisticated understanding of UK government and policy processes.
  • Commitment to the Institute’s mission: belief in the potential of good government, how it can be improved, and its role in improving lives.

Desirable

Credibility and expertise derived from experience of and/or record of research relevant to the Institute’s areas of focus.

  • Experience of innovative research methods.
  • Experience of design and delivery of engagement activities, including facilitating workshops, roundtables or events.
