Leadership
- Senior leadership experience, capable of demonstrating the creativity, vision and drive to position the Institute for Government as the UK’s sector leader in political learning and development.
- Demonstrable track record of collaborative leadership, contributing to the strategic leadership of an organisation.
Commercial
- Significant experience of developing and managing external partnerships to meet financial targets, with the creativity and commercial acumen to drive revenue growth.
- Ability to balance financial sustainability with impact, maintaining focus on mission while meeting resource generation targets and innovating for future growth.
People and programme management
- Excellent people management and interpersonal skills with proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
- Strong programme manager with a demonstrable track record of shaping and delivering projects and programmes within think tanks, institutes, or similar policy environments.
Communication and engagement
- Gravitas and credibility to engage with the most senior figures in government and opposition parties and officials, combined with the absolute discretion and probity to work 1:1 with such individuals.
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience of developing and facilitating workshops, roundtables and events to diverse audiences, particularly within a governmental context.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships, particularly with senior politicians and officials.
Knowledge and motivation
- Strong understanding of UK government.
- Commitment to the Institute’s mission: belief in the potential of good government, how it can be improved, and its role in improving lives.
- Commitment to demonstrating the Institute for Government’s reputation for absolute political impartiality in own actions and public communication, and the work of the Academy.
Desirable
- Demonstrable track record of having successfully established and developed a department, function, institute or similar organisation.
- Credibility derived from experience and/or expertise relevant to the Institute’s areas of focus.
- Demonstrable expertise in facilitation and developing and delivering tailored learning programmes, especially digitally distributed learning modules.
