Person Specification – Non Executive Directors

Candidates should have experience in a non-executive capacity, and a strong interest in parliamentary accountability and the role of the House of Lords. 

In your application, as part of your supporting statement, please address all of the criteria in Part One as you are able to.

 

Essential criteria

Part one

  • Experience of successfully managing relationships in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience in a non-executive capacity in a similarly complex organisation in the public, private or not-for-profit sector.
  • Alongside the ability to contribute to four priorities in the House of Lords strategy (please see about us page for four priorities https://micro.green-park.co.uk/houseoflords/about-us/), ideal candidates will bring relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • senior HR and organisational development experience, including effective workforce planning, pay and employee engagement
    • proven experience in strategic financial oversight and a focus on value for money
    • experience of overseeing effective partnership working, including through high-level governance and performance management systems.

Part Two – Skills & Abilities (Assessed at Interview)

  • Sound judgement, analysis and decision-making skills that have been proven on complex and sensitive issues.
  • The ability to support and challenge the Board with constructive and independent assessments.
  • Demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, including its practical application.
  • The highest levels of personal integrity, fairness and impartiality as enshrined in the Seven Principles of Public Life, known as the Nolan principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including fellow Board members and Board attendees at all levels.
  • The ability to critically assess financial, performance and risk management reporting in particular with reference to public sector service delivery.
  • The ability to act as a critical friend, appropriately supporting and questioning Board colleagues.
  • The ability to inspire confidence with a wide range of internal and external partners.
  • Operating with tact and discretion throughout the role with highly sensitive information.
  • A genuine interest in contributing to the effective running of the House of Lords.
