Introduction to HMRC<\/h3>\n

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is the UK\u2019s tax<\/b>\u00a0and customs authority.<\/b>\u00a0We\u2019re one of the largest organisations in the count<\/b>ry, with\u00a0more than 60,000 employees, and we collected \u00a3875.9 billion in tax receipts in 2024-25<\/b>.<\/b><\/p>\n

Our work touches the lives of almost everyone in the country. The tax revenue we generate is spent by government on the schools, NHS, police and other essential services we all rely on.<\/p>\n

Our vision is to be a trusted, modern, tax and customs department \u2013 one that\u2019s here to support customers and works to close the tax gap.\u202f To achieve this,\u202fwe are driving forward vital changes that will make us more efficient in serving our customers and managing their compliance. The Fraud Investigation Service plays a vital role in closing the tax gap by tackling the most serious frauds and creating visible deterrence to underpin tax compliance.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re investing in our technology, our people and their skills to make it as easy as possible for customers to pay the right tax from the outset: expanding and improving our digital services, enhancing customer experience and fixing problems at source, so we can focus our interventions where they make the biggest difference.<\/p>\n

Customer Compliance Group (CCG) is one of the biggest delivery organisations in government, comprising more than 29,000 passionate and committed people including tax professionals, analysts, and criminal justice professionals<\/b>. <\/b><\/p>\n

We work together with colleagues across HMRC and the wider public sector, in the UK and internationally, to safeguard a system that funds vital public services and depends on public trust. In 2024\/25 we secured \u00a348bn of tax that would not otherwise have been paid.<\/p>\n

The Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) tackles the most serious cases of tax fraud and economic crime. FIS consists of approximately 5,000 Counter Fraud and Tax Professionals based across the UK, including those with specialist skills such as forensic accountancy and cybercrime investigation.<\/p>\n

FIS uses a range of civil and criminal powers to investigate the most harmful tax frauds and protecting the tax system against criminal attacks. Each year, teams in FIS protect billions of pounds and enable hundreds of criminal convictions.<\/p>\n

You will be joining CCG at an exciting time: the Government has announced an unprecedented investment in HMRC\u2019s people and technology which will allow us to bring in around an extra \u00a310 billion in 2029 to 2030. This role is integral to turning that investment into additional money to power the UK\u2019s public services.<\/p>\n
