Welcome Letter

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in working with us at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Here at Hearing Dogs, we are passionate about transforming the lives of those with hearing loss. Our more than 1,200 accredited hearing dogs alert people to various sounds, build resilience and provide companionship to increase confidence and connection. Our hearing link services provide a variety of much needed emotional and practical support services.

1 in 5 people in the UK have a hearing loss – that’s 12 million people. The World Health Organisation recognises hearing loss as the second most impactful contributor to any disability experienced at any age, highlighting its significance on mental and physical health. Hearing loss has been associated with increased risks of depression and social isolation—both of which are linked to a higher chance of developing dementia.

We are currently recruiting for several positions within the Services Department, specifically in the Service Design and Development Team and the Pre-Partnership Team.

About the Service Design and Development Team

The Service Design and Development Team ensures that every service we deliver does what it’s meant to do — help people live well with hearing loss. We design, evaluate, and improve services in partnership with people who have lived experience of deafness and hearing loss, ensuring every service is grounded in real needs.

The team is made up of three key areas:

  • Impact and Innovation – Lead on measuring and understanding the impact of our work, using evidence and insight to drive continuous improvement, turning data into meaningful insight.
  • Service Design – Use the insight generated from the Impact and Innovation team and Service Engagement teams to shape new and existing services. This team ensures services are effective, intuitive, and responsive to people’s needs.
  • Service Engagement – Acts as the link between service design and delivery, working with volunteers and service users to co-create services. This team champions peer-led support and ensures lived experience is at the heart of everything we do.

Together, we ensure our services are:

  • Holistic – Reflecting the full breadth and depth of people’s needs, recognising that everyone’s journey is different.
  • Inclusive – Designed to be welcoming and accessible to all, offering different ways to get support — whether that be digital, in person, or virtual.
  • Integrated – Connecting services and support options to make sure people feel like they are receiving seamless support when they need help.

By embedding co-creation, lived experience, insight, and continuous learning into our approach, we deliver services that make a difference.

About the Pre-Partnership Team

The Pre-Partnership Team welcomes people with hearing loss into the charity and supports them through the early stages of their journey — whether that be through Hearing Link services or though the lifechanging partnership of a Hearing Dog.

Two integrated teams, the Client Support Team and Dog Training Team, enables us to offer cohesive and personalised support. From first contact, we get to know each individual’s needs, explore the right service options, and ensure strong foundations are in place for a lifelong partnership.

Our Client Support Advisors act as the first point of contact for individuals enquiring about our services, offering tailored guidance and preparing them for the journey ahead. Our Dog Training Instructors oversee the training and development of our hearing dogs — from eight weeks of age until they are ready to be matched with a deaf person — supported by a dedicated network of volunteer puppy trainers.

We are further investing in this area with the introduction of a User Experience Manager, ensuring that both service users and volunteers are listened to, supported, and central to how we design and deliver early-stage services.

These specialist teams keep the creation of life-changing partnerships at the heart of everything we do.

If you are excited to make a difference, then we look forward to receiving your expression of interest for these amazing new roles. Of course, the puppies are an added bonus!
