Person Specification

We are looking for individuals who strongly resonate with our mission, especially those passionate about elderly care.

The Chair leads the Board of Trustees, which is responsible for the charity’s governance, strategic direction, financial health, integrity of activities, and development of aims and goals. This must be done in accordance with the governing document and legal and regulatory guidelines.

All trustees should also be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity.

Experience

  • A seasoned professional confident in chairing meetings, developing effective Board and Executive relationships and managing debate with the appropriate level of challenge.
  • Successful track record of operating on a board in a charitable, public sector, or commercial organization, with high-level experience in large, complex organizations.
  • Able to contribute strategically across a wide range of issues.
  • A proven track record of sound judgement and effective decision making.
  • Substantial financial and commercial acumen, including a strong understanding of risk management.

Knowledge, Skills & Understanding

  • Commitment to the organisation and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
  • Preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the board and a willingness to speak their mind.
  • Willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.
  • Good, independent judgement and strategic vision.
  • Credibility and ability to build relationships, engage and influence at all levels, including high profile external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • An understanding of the respective roles of the Chair, Trustees and Chief Executive.
  • An example to others on integrity, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Intellectual curiosity/flexibility to allow analysis, constructive questioning and challenge.
  • A skilled communicator able to engage with people regardless of age, seniority, background or discipline.
