Remuneration, allowances and abatement
- Remuneration: £20,000 p.a.
- Reasonable standard travel expenses will be payable.
- The post is not pensionable.
Appointment and tenure of office
- The Lead NED is appointed by the FCDO’s Foreign Secretary.
- Appointments will be for a period of three years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional term, subject to Ministerial approval.
- Any re-appointment is subject to satisfactory annual appraisals of performance during the first term in the post. If re-appointed, the total time served in post will not exceed more than two terms or serve in any one post for more than ten years.
It will be important that a Member’s other commitments do not cast any doubt on their ability to act independently and impartially in discharging the role; any potential conflict of interest must be declared and will be discussed at interview.
All Board Members are required to adhere to:
- The Cabinet Office Code of Conduct for Board Members of Public Bodies.
- The Seven Principles of Public Life (see Annex A)
Commitment
Approximately 20 days per annum. Further hours from time to time may be reasonable and necessary for the sufficient performance of your duties.
Security Clearance
Appointment to these roles is dependent on receiving national security vetting clearance. The successful candidate will be required to undertake Security Check (SC) clearance. Further information on National Security Vetting can be found on the Gov.uk website here.
