Essential

Knowledge/Experience:

  1. Experience of theology and/or applied ethics.
  2. Understanding of financial / investment markets or a related area.
  3. Able to demonstrate an understanding of, and interest in, investment, ethical investment and environmental, social and governance issues in business and/or financial markets.
  4. Experience of policy development and managing programmes of work to produce high quality papers and for senior leadership audiences.
  5. Awareness of current policy questions for the Church of England and its investing bodies.

Skills/Aptitudes:

  1. A confident and strategic thinker and planner, able to grasp and analyse complex issues and manage stakeholders with diverging interests.
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills, and able to present clearly and concisely to different audiences.
  3. Strong administrative and organisational skills, able to ensure that work is delivered in a timely way to a high standard, exhibiting attention to detail.
  4. Able to use IT effectively.

Education:

  1. Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate skills to an equivalent level (including ability to undertake and present research and conclusions of at least degree-qualified standard).

  2. Excellent interpersonal and liaison skills, including being able to exercise diplomacy to get the best out of different teams and individuals with different working styles.

  4. Demonstrates sound judgement.
  5. Able to manage personal conflicts of interest (for example where EIAG / NIB policy positions may differ from the Secretary’s own beliefs or values).

Desirable

  1. Understanding of the Church of England, its structures, beliefs and values (highly desirable).
  2. Experience of policy development in a complex organisation in the public, private or third sector.
  3. Experience of undertaking research or policy development in one or more of the policy areas of interest to the EIAG.
  4. Experience of managing a budget and consultants, contractors, or project teams.
  5. Experience of working successfully with Trustees or non-executive boards, including arranging and managing meetings.
  6. Experience of working in roles in financial / investment markets, including responsible investment.
