Job Purpose
The Executive Director is responsible for successfully developing and leading the growth of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) at scale for the Dollywood Foundation in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland (DWF UK) according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director UK is an excellent communicator, a competent decision-maker, and is recognised as an effective leader, manager, and strategist.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
- Participate with the UK Board of Directors and DWF President in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organisation;
- Identify, assess, and inform the UK Board of Directors and DWF President of internal and external issues that affect the organisation;
- Develop an annual plan, including specific goals and strategies to achieve them, designed to meet the DWF UK’s long-term strategic goals;
- Provide leadership, guidance, motivation, and development for the DWF UK’s team members to accomplish growth objectives for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) programme;
- Foster clear and effective coordination and communication between the UK Board of Directors, the DWF President, UK Regional Directors and the DWF team;
- Represent The Dollywood Foundation UK at local and national events to build The Dollywood Foundation UK’s national profile;
- Serve as the primary point of contact and guide for the DPIL partnership in Australia;
- Maintain a high level of familiarity and understanding of the DWF’s Book Order System, and specifically maintain the ability to obtain data and generate reports that inform decisions;
- Oversee the maintenance of official records and documents and ensure compliance with national regulations and filings for DWF UK;
- Provide support to the UK Board and DWF President by preparing meeting agendas and supporting materials;
Programme Development
- Promote DPIL externally as ‘the model for replication,’ build partnerships in domestic and international markets to expand the profile of DPIL, and establish strategic relationships with funders, community leaders, and political leaders to leverage their support in significantly scaling DPIL;
- Ensure that the programme and services offered by The Dollywood Foundation UK contribute to The Dollywood Foundation’s mission and reflect the priorities of the DWF UK Board and DWF USA Board;
- Responsible for annually increasing the number of children enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in the UK as outlined in the strategic plan;
- Collaborate with the leadership team, staff, and contractors to adapt, implement, and regularly assess annual and multi-year strategies to achieve the Foundation’s goals;
- Strengthen all aspects of communication to catalyse growth;
- Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing local programmes, new local programmes, and operations;
- Recommend research and metrics to demonstrate DPIL impact to support sustainable growth;
- Oversee the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects.
Human Resources
- Effectively lead and manage team members assigned to report to the position. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing human resources, developing individual annual goals, and individual work plans to achieve those goals, conducting annual performance reviews, recommending compensation and bonuses, development, hiring, and termination;
- Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices, including the development of job descriptions for all staff, if required;
- Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations;
- Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right skillsets and personal attributes to help accomplish strategic goals and further the organisation’s mission;
- Ensure that all staff receives an induction to the organisation and that appropriate training is provided;
- Implement a performance management process for all staff, which includes monitoring staff performance on an ongoing basis and providing coaching and development.
Financial Planning and Management
- Work with the DWF President, the UK Board, and the DWF team to prepare a comprehensive budget;
- Work with the UK Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organisation;
- Research funding sources and models; oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to increase the number of children enrolled by local programme partners;
- Approve expenditures within the DWF UK budget as delegated by the President and DWF UK Board;
- Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed;
- Administer the funds of the organisation according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organisation;
- Provide the UK Board and DWF President with regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the organisation;
- Ensure that the organisation complies with all legislation covering taxation and payments.
Community Relations/Advocacy
- Communicate with local programme partners and stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organisation;
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with national organisations, community groups, funders, politicians, and other organisations to help achieve the strategy and goals of the Dollywood Foundation UK.
Risk Management
- Identify and evaluate the risks to the Dollywood Foundation UK’s people (clients, staff, management, volunteers), finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks;
- Ensure that the DWF UK Board of Directors and the DWF UK carry appropriate and adequate insurance coverage;
- Ensure that the Board and staff understand the terms, conditions, and limitations of the insurance coverage.
