Person Specification ­– West Midlands Racial Justice Initiative Director

Who We’re Looking For

You are a transformative director with experience in systems change, racial justice, and faith-based work. You understand how to move from critique to implementation, and you have the courage to challenge structures while cultivating trust.

Due to the nature of the post, there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010 that the appointed individual is:

  • A committed Christian who subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, due to the need for high-level advocacy for the faith, ministry and mission of The Church of England. 
  • A member of an ethnically minoritised group, due to the need for the individual to be immersed in understanding the contexts and barriers which individuals of UKME/GMH may face.

WMRJI is especially interested in director who:

  • Are rooted in communities of ethnically minoritised groups.
  • Bring lived experience alongside professional and theological acumen.
  • Can model anti-racist and decolonial leadership with humility.
  • Can lead a team of people with a range of gifts and talents to scope, network, monitor, deliver and report in their roles
  • Are skilled in strategy, facilitation, governance, and communications.

We recognise that racial justice work is emotionally demanding. WMRJI is committed to providing reflective space, coaching, and holistic support for the Director and all team members.
