Thank you for your interest in becoming the new Chair of our Diocesan Board of Finance.
Across our Diocese of Bath and Wells, people are living and telling the story of Jesus in the places they are called to serve.
The Chair of our Board of Finance plays an essential role in enabling us to live out the mission that we’re called to turn into action across our diverse and beautiful diocese. Above all, our Chair serves as a wise and critical friend and partner who contributes to our governance, supports our development of strategy, helps us make informed decisions about our allocation of resources and who supports our stewardship of the assets and heritage we have been given to make Jesus Christ known to the people of our county and generation. As a diocese we continue to grapple with our ministerial needs and our financial reality while we’re delighted to see growth and new life in many places. Nurturing recovery and getting onto a longer-term sustainable footing are immediate priorities for us. As we look for a Chair who can help us in these tasks, we’re seeking a colleague who is creative, strategic, innovative, faithful and collaborative.
One of the greatest joys of our life here in Bath and Wells is the quality and vitality of the people that God has called together to form his Church in this place. Our new Chair will interact with people in parishes, schools and chaplaincies from Frome to Exmoor, Portishead to Yeovil and all stops in between. We have a diverse and talented diocesan support services team and vibrant representation within the councils of our diocese from clergy and laity drawn from all our different settings. Our new Chair will enable us to synergise the contributions of all these people of good will, helping us grasp the opportunities that lie before us particularly in mission and outreach as well as engagement with children, families and young people and our ongoing response to the climate emergency.
We’re looking forward to being joined by a colleague who will join with us in learning what it is to live faithfully as God’s people in our days so that together we can encourage, challenge and help one another. If you think this role might be for you, or if you want to know more, please do contact us for a conversation.
