About

Who we are

We are the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. These are lifelong conditions for which there is no cure, and they affect more than 540,000 people in the UK.

Every year, 25,000 people are told that they have Crohn’s or Colitis. For some, the news comes as a shock. For others, it has taken many years to get that diagnosis. However the news comes, it is life-changing.

Since 1979, Crohn’s & Colitis UK has been here for everyone affected by Crohn’s and Colitis.

We operate a hybrid model of working, with staff undertaking both home and office working. Our office is in Hatfield, Hertfordshire and is easily accessible.

What we do

Living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease often means decades spent navigating complex health issues.  People affected by the conditions look to Crohn’s & Colitis UK for much-needed support and information. They tell us about the unpredictability of living with a fluctuating condition, of always wondering when the next flare-up will strike.

Our website is a trusted source of up-to-date, accredited information for patients and healthcare professionals. Meanwhile, our expert helpline provides support and guidance to members of the Crohn’s and Colitis community when they need it most.

The symptoms of Crohn’s and Colitis can be debilitating, life-changing, and embarrassing. We know that too many people are suffering in silence.

We are here to raise awareness, end taboos, and ensure that everyone living with Crohn’s or Colitis feels seen, heard and understood.

Our work with healthcare professionals has helped improve the diagnosis, treatment and management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. But with the NHS under sustained pressure, we must strive ever-harder to ensure that people with Crohn’s and Colitis are not left behind, their needs unmet.

We have built a strong Crohn’s and Colitis community and we understand the issues that matter to people living with the conditions. We are here to help lift their voices and lobby those in power to improve life for every single person with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
