Person Specification – Chief Executive Officer

This is a role for a civil society leader with deeply held values consistent with the Crisis values and a passion for social justice and inclusion. Working closely with highly talented groups of Trustees and senior staff, it requires someone with the ability to build and mobilise the resources and relationships needed to end homelessness.

We are looking for a leader who is clear, authentic, and collegiate. The key attributes of what will make a successful leader at Crisis are:

  • Commitment to Crisis’ values and to ending homelessness
  • Commitment to and track record of values-led leadership, able to build a purposeful, high-performance culture through authentic and credible communication, visible personal employee engagement, and the embedding lived experiences into everything the organisation says and does
  • Personal and professional commitment to creating and advancing a diverse, inclusive environment in which staff and volunteers can develop and thrive
  • Successful operational, financial, and performance leadership of a complex organisation providing support for many thousands of people, many of whom have experienced trauma, poverty, discrimination, exclusion, and marginalisation, ideally with oversight of at least £20m of voluntary income and in excess of 250 staff
  • Successful record of growing charity income and resources, and personal involvement in and achievement in fundraising
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, convening, partnership, diplomatic and ambassadorial skills and experience of effective and authentic engagement with cross-party political leaders, business leaders, staff, volunteers, and many others and strong media presence and skills
  • Experience of leading the development of strategic plans and leading multiple change programmes, with a demonstrable appetite for and track record of supporting innovation and challenging and changing the status quo inside and outside of their organisation and/or sector
  • Experience of problem solving and complex project and risk management, ideally in a service and policy influencer type organisation reliant on voluntary income.
