Role Specification
The Board is reflective of the work of Comic Relief; entertaining and inspiring people to give generously to support people living incredibly tough lives – human beings helping other human beings, what can be better than that!
Trustees have a shared a pride in representing Comic Relief, working, and supporting the team to achieve a vision of ‘A World Free from Poverty’. They:
- Understand and support the work of the charity, including funding, fundraising and public engagement.
- Contribute actively to the Board in giving strategic direction to the charity, agreeing overall strategy, policy, targets, and evaluating performance thereon.
- Act as ambassadors for Comic Relief and safeguard its good name and values, being collectively responsible for the actions of the charity and other Trustees.
- Ensure that resources are applied to achieve collective objectives.
- Monitor the financial position, ensuring that Comic Relief operates within its means, is well managed and properly invests the charity’s funds.
- Ensure that Comic Relief takes reasonable steps to protect from harm people who interact with the charity, be it as a partner, beneficiary, member of staff, volunteer or in other ways related to Comic Relief’s work.
- Ensure that Comic Relief complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Use any specific skills, knowledge, or experience to help the Board reach sound decisions.
- Lead and support the Executive to:
- Foster a culture that is inclusive and allows Trustees and Colleagues to thrive.
- Achieve its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging ambitions and strategy.
- Act in a non-executive capacity, providing relevant input, experience and guidance to the Executive.
Terms of Appointment
Trustees are appointed for a term of three years, renewable for two further terms.
The Board meets 5 times per year and meetings are held in London.
The time commitment for this role is 1-2 days per month.
The role of Trustee is unremunerated.
