Purpose of Job:
You will lead Comic Relief’s income strategy and delivery at a critical point of transformation, rebuilding core fundraising while creating a more diversified, resilient and future-facing income model.
This role is accountable for delivering sustainable income growth, strengthening our connection with audiences, and ensuring Comic Relief can maximise long-term impact at scale.
This is both a transformation and growth role, stabilising and modernising existing income streams while building new sources of income, and bringing these together as a single, deliberate and joined-up income strategy.
Role Overview:
The Chief Income Officer is responsible for leading and delivering Comic Relief’s income strategy across all streams, including:
• Public fundraising
• Corporate partnerships
• Philanthropy and high value giving
• Trusts, foundations and institutional funding
• Commercial and IP-based income
You will integrate these into a coherent, portfolio-led approach, balancing short-term income delivery with long-term growth, and ensuring a more diversified and sustainable income base.
Key Responsibilities:
Income Strategy & Growth
- Define and lead a clear, organisation-wide income strategy across all streams.
- Own delivery of income growth over the short, medium and long term.
- Build and actively manage a balanced portfolio of income streams, optimising for growth, risk and return.
- Make clear, evidence-based decisions on priorities, investment and trade-offs.
Transformation & Innovation
- Lead the rebuild and modernisation of public fundraising.
- Develop and scale new income streams and fundraising models.
- Shift the organisation towards digital, data-led and audience-focused income generation.
- Embed a disciplined test-and-learn approach, balancing innovation with performance.
Supporter Growth & Engagement
- Strengthen supporter acquisition, retention and lifetime value.
- Improve conversion from engagement to income across all channels.
- Grow and deepen Comic Relief’s supporter base and reach.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality supporter journeys end-to-end.
Cross-Organisational Leadership
- Work closely with the Executive Team to align income, content, brand and impact.
- Ensure income generation is embedded into campaigns and organisational planning from the outset.
- Act as a system leader, breaking down silos and driving a fully integrated approach.
Performance & Delivery
- Own income targets, forecasting and performance management.
- Establish clear, consistent metrics across all income streams.
- Use data and insight to continuously optimise performance and return on investment.
- Ensure strong financial discipline and sustainability.
External Leadership
- Represent Comic Relief with senior partners, donors and stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships across corporate, philanthropic and institutional partners.
- Lead and support major partnerships and high-value opportunities.
Governance & Decision-Making
- Accountable for income performance and investment decisions within agreed governance frameworks.
- Operate with clear authority on prioritisation and trade-offs across the income portfolio.
- Represent income at Board and Committee level.
- Ensure alignment with organisational strategy and financial plans.
Leadership & Culture
- Lead, develop and inspire high-performing income teams.
- Build a culture that combines creativity and commercial discipline.
- Foster collaboration across functions and teams.
- Contribute to overall organisational leadership as a member of the Executive Team.
