This role requires an individual who can work strategically as well as taking a hands-on, practical and action-orientated approach as part of a busy team.
Essential criteria:
- A recognised qualification in HR management (preferably CIPD level 7), or equivalent professional experience
- Significant HR experience at a senior level, including experience of HR databases
- Up-to-date knowledge of ACAS codes of practice and basic employment law
- Experience of leading, managing a team, and providing an environment for them to be highly motivated
- Practical experience of advising on people management, strong negotiating skills and the ability to handle complex employment issues with diplomacy and discretion
- Understanding of handling sensitive personal data within the requirements of GDPR and data protection legislation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to be an effective chair for interview panels, investigations or disciplinary meetings
- Empathy and good listening skills
- Strong written communication skills including the ability to draft contracts and other documentation
- Strong administrative skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload
- Good IT skills (Microsoft package, HR databases and systems)
Desirable criteria:
- Experience of managing diversity and inclusion in an institution of comparable size
- Mediation experience or proven conflict management skills
- Experience of working in HR in a Higher Education environment
