This is a broad and varied role spanning strategic leadership, governance, geopolitical positioning, and, naturally, combatting the climate emergency. There are significant complexities to our work, and it will be important to demonstrate your experience of our key criteria throughout this process and your ability to connect the dots.

We are looking for an empathetic, inclusive Chair with high levels of emotional intelligence and resilience and a particular appreciation of the nuances of the China Dialogue Trust’s work. It is essential for us to remain independent and effective.

This is a exciting point of strategic change for the China Dialogue Trust and we are looking for our new Chair to play a crucial role in our evolution. As such, we would value hearing about your insights into and experience of change management e.g. from a growth perspective.

Finally, we are looking for someone who shares our values, particularly with regard to the importance of accurate information and high-quality reporting about the climate emergency, knows the value of the China Dialogue Trust, and sees its potential for significant impact.

Essential Experience, Abilities and Characteristics:

  • An inclusive, empathetic, and transparent approach to leadership
  • Proven experience of working effectively with a Board, with an ability to make the most of the skillsets around the table
  • Demonstrable experience of navigating an environment of geopolitical sensitivities
  • A keen understanding of the climate space, especially from the perspective of international cooperation
  • Experience of non-profit governance and working with / as part of a Board of Trustees
  • Experience playing a key role in an organisation’s evolution and growth
  • Excellent networking and relationship building abilities
  • A diplomatic, clear, tactful approach, with the ability to listen and engage effectively
