Knowledge
- Understanding of Developer Education: Has familiarity with educational programs in software development, such as coding camps or upskilling initiatives, especially in underrepresented regions. An understanding of open-source engineering environments will be advantageous.
- Insight into the Global South Developer Landscape: Knowledgeable about the unique aspects and needs of the developer community in the Global South, with a focus on African regions.
- Understanding of how open source software communities operate, challenges that they face and how they are funded.
- Bitcoin Ecosystem Awareness: While not initially essential, a firm grasp or willingness to learn about the Bitcoin ecosystem, including its challenges, opportunities, and comparative strengths against other cryptocurrencies, is highly desirable.
Experience
- Leadership in Not-for-Profit or Commercial International Organisations: At least four years (preferred) of experience in leading not-for-profit or commercial organisations with a significant presence in Africa and/or the Global South. Candidates with slightly less experience will also be considered.
- Management of Dispersed Teams: Proven experience managing a geographically dispersed team comprising at least three members, including those in the Global South, preferably in an African region.
- Proven track record (4+ years) of leading technology‐driven programs or organizations in emerging-market contexts.
Objectives and Deliverables (Year 1-3)
- Year 1:
- Developing a comprehensive three to five-year strategy and operational plan to fully operationalise ₿trust’s Genesis Principles and mandate (including targets, budgets, and staffing plan).
- Recruiting a team in line with the agreed strategy.
- Monitor and improve the ₿trust Builder Program pipeline, with the goal of graduating 5 quality Global South developers to a career in open source.
- Year 2:
- Report on milestones achieved in year 1 per the agreed strategy and operational plan.
- Provide learning and evidence from the field to help with insights for the revision of operational plans as required.
- Delivery of milestones agreed with the board for Year 2.
- Year 3:
- Report on milestones achieved in Year 2 per the agreed strategy and operational plan.
- Provide learning and evidence from the field to help with insights for the revision of operational plans as required.
- Delivery of milestones agreed with the board for Year 3.
Remuneration and Benefits
- Leave: Annual, sick, and parental leave as applicable in the candidate’s location.
- Pay: Market competitive based on applicant location: circa $120 – 150k equivalent paid in BTC.
- Expenses: Travel, accommodation, and incidental costs paid.
- Other benefits: As applicable in the candidate location / as negotiated with the post holder.
Location
- Remote but extensive travel is required in line with the requirements of the operational plans.
