Appointment Process
Shortlisting
The BTPA will review all applications received against the eligibility requirements and pre-defined assessment criteria and make recommendations to the selection panel at the shortlist meeting. The BTPA will notify candidates of the outcome of the shortlisting meeting and provide feedback.
The selection panel will be chaired by Ron Barclay-Smith, BTPA Chair. Other panel members will include:
- Lucy D’Orsi, Chief Constable of BTP
- Hugh Ind, Chief Executive of BTPA
- Dyan Perry, Deputy Chair of BTPA
- TBC, Independent Panel Member
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to disclose any disciplinary matters or any outstanding allegations or ongoing investigations.
Assessments
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a People Panel which will include officers and staff of differing grades/ranks from a range of BTP Divisions. Candidates will also be assessed by a Stakeholder Panel on their commercial knowledge and understanding. Reports from these will be provided to the Selection Panel. Finally, candidates will participate in a personality assessment administered by Green Park.
Final Interview
Final interviews will follow a standard interview format, in person, and will be conducted by the Selection Panel.

Data may be used for monitoring the effectiveness of the recruitment process but in these circumstances all data will be kept anonymous. The equal opportunities monitoring form is used for monitoring the selection process only. If you do not wish to have these details recorded please return the form uncompleted. If you are unsuccessful, personal details relating to your application will be held securely and destroyed after six months.
Pre-Employment Checks
The successful candidate will be subject to the satisfactory completion of pre-appointment enquiries including Management Vetting, medical and references before an appointment can be offered formally. The successful candidate will be required to sign a contract with the BTPA before taking up appointment.
It is a requirement of the pre-employment checks that you have been resident in the UK for the last three years.
Travel Costs
There are no arrangements for the reimbursement of travel costs for the process.
