About Us

Introduction

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in joining the British Red Cross. We are delighted that you are considering becoming part of our organisation. This role is pivotal within the British Red Cross, providing strategic leadership for work that enables us to deliver our humanitarian mission in the UK and around the world.

For more than 150 years, the British Red Cross has been here for people in crisis. While we honour our history, our focus is firmly on the present and the future — ensuring that individuals and communities get the support they need to prepare for,  respond to, and recover from emergencies. As a senior leader within our organisation, you will play a key role in shaping our direction, supporting our teams, and ensuring we continue delivering effectively on our mission.

This post provides leadership across the breadth of our Organisation, leading our Fundraising and Marketing. You will work in partnership with senior leaders across the British Red Cross, engaging proactively to ensure our work remains relevant, impactful and grounded in the realities people face.

At the British Red Cross, we are looking for outstanding leaders who can help us support millions of people affected by crisis in the UK and beyond. We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and are committed to offering equal opportunities to everyone, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. Diversity is something we celebrate, and we want you to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross.

Our mission is to mobilise the power of humanity so individuals and communities can prepare for, respond to and recover from crises. This is captured in our guiding principle of refusing to ignore people in crisis, a commitment that influences every part of our work.

Our Values and Principles

Working for the British Red Cross is not just a job, it’s an opportunity to be part of something deeply meaningful. The impact of our work is visible every day, from providing emergency support during disasters to offering a listening ear when someone needs it most. Your contribution will support an organisation rooted in kindness, humanity and compassion.

The rewards of working here go beyond professional achievement; it is about knowing that your leadership helps save lives, supports vulnerable communities, and strengthens resilience. We are dedicated to a culture of integrity, inclusivity and accountability. Our volunteers and staff uphold the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.

We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all. Misconduct of any kind — including sexual harassment, exploitation or abuse — is not tolerated within the British Red Cross. Our code of conduct ensures concerns are addressed quickly and effectively, safeguarding our people and the communities we serve.

The British Red Cross, incorporated by Royal Charter in 1908, is a charity registered in England and Wales (220949) and Scotland (SC037738). Our work is possible thanks to our dedicated staff, volunteers, supporters and partners. Together, we are part of the world’s emergency responders.

For over 150 years, we have put kindness into action. Today, over 17,200 volunteers and more than 3,400 staff continue that mission — helping millions of people prepare for, endure and recover from crisis in the UK and around the world.

We are committed to flexible working and fostering a supportive culture that prioritises well‑being, enabling our people to thrive and ensuring we attract a diverse range of talented candidates.

We look forward to engaging with you through the application process and hope you find this opportunity as inspiring and rewarding as we do.
