Founded in 2003, Blue Ventures (BV) is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. With the oceans threatened like never before from overfishing, pollution and climate breakdown, BV supports coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries and restore ocean life – equipping them with everything they need to safeguard ocean life in ways that benefit them.
A restored ocean can help fight climate change and deliver food and income benefits to billions. But the only way to make this happen is to mobilise the coastal communities that live alongside − and depend upon − our oceans.
That’s why BV works side-by-side with local partner organisations and fishers to strengthen, scale and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. Over the past two decades, BV has grown from a single site in Madagascar into a global organisation that works across 14 countries in the coastal tropics.
Working holistically to secure fishers’ rights, BV operates at the local as much as the global level and is proud to be part of a growing movement to shore up local management, enrich local livelihoods and sustain healthy oceans for generations to come.
