Welcome

Helen Rowntree

We’re excited to tell you about the huge impact this appeal will have on people affected by the hardest to treat blood cancers, and hope you’ll join us in our ambitious plans to change the future of blood cancer research and the future for thousands living with blood cancer.

For the last 65 years, Blood Cancer UK has funded research that has transformed survival rates for many types of blood cancer. When we were founded, only 1 in 10 children survived a blood cancer diagnosis. Today, that stands at 9 in 10 and we have many more success stories.

But, despite the many breakthroughs, too many people are dying from blood cancer.

Right now, 58% of all blood cancer deaths are due to blood cancers that cannot be treated.  This is unacceptable.  We’re determined to bring forward the day no-one dies of blood cancer or its treatments and we know that with collaboration, innovative thinking, clinical trials – and support from people like you – we can achieve this. Together.

The time is now for us to launch a Major Appeal.

We aim to raise £25 million to fund three transformational blood cancer research programmes. These will deliver innovative clinical trials that have never been seen before in the UK in blood cancer. We’ll target the least survivable myeloid, lymphoma and myeloma blood cancers, in order to save and prolong the lives of thousands of people affected.

And this won’t just benefit blood cancer patients.   Evidence shows research that started in blood cancer has paved the way for breakthroughs in other types of cancer, so this extra investment will fundamentally shift care, treatment and survival across all types of cancer.

So what do we need from you?

The Major Appeal Board will play a key role in guiding and supporting the appeal so that we can change the future of blood cancer research.

Our plans are ambitious. But I’m so excited to share them with you as we bring together the brightest minds and our most generous supporters to change the landscape for people with blood cancer.

We’re thrilled that you’re considering being a part of our Major Appeal Board. I’d be delighted to meet with you to tell you more or answer your questions at any point during this process.

Thank you for your interest,

Helen Rowntree
