Role Description

Job Title: Director of Programmes and Learning

Reports to: Chief Executive

Manages: Heads of Programme (currently Migration, Criminal Justice, Economic Justice Birmingham and Fair by Design) and Programme Officer

Salary: £99,013, with a contributory pension scheme up to 10%

Job Type: Full time

Location: An expectation that at least 2 days a week will be office/field-based. The Barrow Cadbury Trust office is in Vauxhall, London.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic management of the Trust. Our vision is of a just and peaceful society which recognises the equal value of all people. We currently focus on the following key areas of reform in our social policy programmes:

  • Criminal justice: Seeking transformation in the way the criminal justice system responds to young adults and women and addressing the over-representation of minority ethnic groups in criminal justice settings.
  • Economic justice: Challenging economic injustice in Birmingham through building a movement for change, and advocating nationally for elimination of the poverty premium through our Fair by Design Programme
  • Migration: Advocating for equitable and dignified treatment of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants and deepening understanding and public debate about issues of migration and integration.

We do this by working in collaboration with a wide range of partners, aiming to bridge the divide between those with experience of inequality and policymakers. We work with think tanks, campaigning organisations and pressure groups to feed into public dialogue and our work is informed by the experience of those affected by the policy areas on which we work.

We seek long-term, lasting change to the structures and systems which perpetuate inequality and injustice. We are looking for somebody for this role who shares our eagerness and ambition for lasting change.

The Director of Programmes and Learning will guide and manage the programme team as they design and deliver programmes of work that build power in communities and drive long-term change. Our approach includes funding partners who share our aims, convening and advocacy activities. The post-holder will ensure we are learning and sharing information about our impact.
