The Director of Programmes holds overall responsibility for Ashden’s domestic and international programmes, ensuring they are systemically impactful, well-coordinated, and in line with our five-year strategy. This also means working closely with colleagues right across the organisation, from finance and operations to fundraising and communications, making sure that not only are our programmes well-funded but that Ashden works efficiently and collaboratively as an organisation.
Our Director of Programmes will be part of the Executive Management Team (EMT), playing an important role in ensuring Ashden as a whole achieves deep impact, is well run, and is a great place to work, acting as a key steward of our culture and of organisational health.
This is a visible and influential role that requires deep strategic expertise, inclusive and decisive leadership, and a collaborative approach.
Executive & Organisational Leadership
- As a member of the EMT, play a central role in shaping organisational strategy, budget decisions and policy development.
- Play a key role as a steward of our culture, ensuring that Ashden is a joined-up, collaborative organisation with excellent values and is a great place to work.
- Play a key role in Ashden-wide initiatives, communications and fundraising efforts, such as our annual Awards.
- Act as a strategic spokesperson for Ashden, representing the organisation at key events with stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Board and other Directors on organisational and programme performance, impact and financial management.
- Along with other Directors, deputise for the CEO when required.
Programmes Leadership
- Provide vision and strategic oversight for all domestic and international programmes, ensuring that programme planning and delivery is aligned with Ashden’s mission and strategic plan.
- Lead a high-performing, diverse and geographically dispersed team, equally making sure that team’s structure is fit for purpose.
- Ensure that Ashden’s programmatic work remains creative, impactful, and able to quickly capitalise on new initiatives in response to evolving opportunities and strategic priorities.
- Together with our Impact Lead, monitor programme outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
- Work closely with the Director of Business Development and the Fundraising Team to identify and secure new income streams and maintain current ones.
- Ensure Ashden’s storytelling and influencing efforts are rooted in programme learning and amplify our impact.
