Essential (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)
- To succeed in the role, you will need to be a strategic thinker with a strong understanding and knowledge of the opportunities and challenges in the Midlands area and the ability to develop innovative approaches in addressing novel problems and ensure alignment of plans and priorities with the national agenda.
- You will have a deep understanding of current context for external partnerships in the cultural sector, including substantial experience of working with local government, independent organisations or charities.
- You should have extensive previous experience in a similar senior management role with considerable experience in overseeing the delivery of complex and multiple projects.
- You should be experienced in influencing others to encourage them to contribute to delivering our strategy.
- You must have the ability to develop and maintain strong and credible partnerships with key external stakeholders, including the media and the public, using the value of the geographical footprint to create new connections and opportunities. You should be a credible advocate of the arts and culture with the ability to speak confidently and credibly on behalf of the Arts Council.
- You should have proven management experience and the ability to motivate your senior team to achieve high performance and maintain focus on delivering both local and national objectives.
- You will also have experience of delivering against national processes, ensuring high organisational performance whilst balancing the focus on both national and local delivery.
- You will need a good understanding of the constraints and duties which apply to public bodies, such as the Arts Council. You will also need extensive experience of collaborative working at Board and executive level within a matrix environment to develop national policy and ensure it is implemented successfully.
Desirable (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)
- Experience of delivery of development and growth activities within arts, museums and libraries.
- Knowledge and understanding of the cultural sector in England, and of its current challenges and opportunities.
