Role Profile – Chair

Role Description

The New Chair

Achieving this ambition and delivering impact in multiple places requires a highly energetic, committed leader who is compelled by the ambition and mission and who can open doors in the private sector and in the corridors of Whitehall. This is a voluntary position within a dedicated and high-performing team that consistently goes above and beyond. The role is both dynamic and demanding, requiring an experienced senior leader with a strong track record of influencing at the highest levels. We are seeking an individual with proven expertise in leading organisational growth, who can actively support fundraising efforts and engage effectively at the highest levels with partners, including foundations and individual supporters.

There is a once in a generation chance to try to secure significant funding from the Better Futures Fund and to influence policy at a time when government is looking to ‘do things differently’, having established the Office for the Impact Economy (an AllChild Director is there on secondment) to bring public, private and social sectors together in new types of partnerships to solve the thorniest social problems of the day, child poverty being one of them. If AllChild is successful, this will also require significant private sector partnerships and philanthropic funding that supports its place-based model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chair the Board of Trustees and oversee Committees for effective and inclusive governance.
  • Guide, support and inspire the CEO and Executive Team to deliver the ambition and mission.
  • Build networks with private sector business leaders and companies for funding and partnerships.
  • Engage at senior levels of government to champion children’s futures and advocate for change.
  • Engage at the highest level with AllChild partners such as trusts, foundations and individuals.
  • Proactively advocate and be a visible ambassador for the AllChild mission and ambition.
  • Live the AllChild culture, regularly connecting with the wider AllChild team, partners and communities.

Formally there are four board meetings per year and one strategy day as well as ad hoc attendance in the Finance Risk and Audit Committee and Nominations and Remuneration Committee meetings. There are fundraising, community and other events throughout the year.

Person Specification

  • Deep commitment to the mission with some prior social impact experience (desirable with children/families).
  • Active business leader with current role at senior level of private sector company.
  • Non-Exec governance experience and strategic leadership in any sector.
  • Broad and deep network of business leaders.
  • Capacity and capability to engage ministers and senior government officials.
  • Track record of inspirational culture carrying and teamwork.
