Salary
The salary for this role is c £140,000 per annum on a full-time permanent basis. More may be available for an exceptional candidate. Starting salary will be dependent on experience.
Location
This role is based in London, with the option to work on a hybrid basis, in line with the demands of the role.
Pension
Up to 8% contribution by Age UK.
Annual leave
26 days plus Bank Holidays.
Role Purpose
Age UK’s new strategy has bold and ambitious plans, therefore its vital that we can grow and can raise income to support all areas of our work.
The Chief Income Generation Officer will draw together our collective expertise already existing in our separate income generation functions; Retail, Fundraising and Age Co.
A new collective function, led by the Chief Income Generation Officer, will be responsible for creating, delivering, and evolving Age UK’s income generation organisation-wide strategy, to deliver a cost-effective return on investment locally, nationally and internationally.
As part of the wider leadership team, the Chief Income Generation Officer plays a pivotal role in the delivery and continued evolution of Age UK’s strategy.
This is a strategic role, leading all areas of income generation for Age UK, as well as building effective external relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including corporate givers, the public, product providers and partners as well as philanthropists, public funding bodies and grant givers.
Main Responsibilities of the Post
Strategy and planning
- Lead on the transformation of the charity’s income generation strategy, ensuring we reach Age UK’s varying external audiences appropriately, being bold and ambitious in our ask and seeking ways to break down siloes within our existing teams.
- Working closely with our Brand teams to test out new approaches and narrative to best effect for fundraising, reporting on outcomes and being agile to change in response.
- Oversee all income generation activity, working closely with colleagues across the organisation, specifically Brand and Communications to ensure our external activity supports Age UK’s ability to raise funds that can be targeted to delivery our strategy.
- Continually ensure that our strategy encompasses the needs and opportunities of our collective network, both in terms of need and opportunity across the wide landscape.
- Manage the Director of Marketing and Planning, supporting them to create a central service team that delivers support and expertise for all areas of income generation in marketing, strategic planning and enabling data-driven decision making.
Income generation functions
- Manage the Director of Age Co, our financial services trading arm, to bring about a cohesion of vision and strategy, sharing resource and aligning priorities.
- Continually monitor the direct performance of our product portfolio in Age Co, maximising on the high performing, tapping into new opportunity, and reducing investment in the suboptimal.
- Manage the Director of Fundraising, to continually review our planning of core fundraising activity, developing an improved framework for testing, learning and growing in our approaches to fundraising, quickly identifying the suboptimal and investing in spaces that will drive improved returns.
- Manage the Retail Director enabling us to maximise retail’s net contribution to Age UK while also finding opportunities to support our network in their varying retail models and to use our retail network to maximum effect, both financially and in other areas of our strategy.
- In leading the income generation function, ensure a holistic approach to investment, efficiencies and returns, and adopt a shared model to include data, digital and marketing across the function.
- Maintain strong and effective relationships both with our 130 local Age UKs and our sister charity Age International, who is changing the global situation for older people by funding programmes in over 80 low and middle-income countries.
Our local partner network
- Support our network partners to raise income through the sharing of information and resources and direct support.
- Identify ways in which we can share income generation expertise to help our network, and enable them to help each other, to raise income, cross-sell and partner on programmes of work that can deliver income both nationally and locally.
- Actively champion and support our local partners and continually consider ways in which we can support them in their fundraising, trading and retail activities at a local level.
General
- Represent Age UK’s Income Generation function at board level, responsible for the delivery of data insights and KPIs that deliver the assurance that our Board of Trustees require. Provide more detailed support to the Trading sub-committee and the Fundraising, Marketing, Brand and Comms Sub-Committee, both of which have a delegated level of responsibility from the Board of Trustees.
- Provide exemplary leadership, modelling best practice at a senior level with clear expectations for the same from your senior teams.
- As part of the executive team, actively engage with our DEI agenda defining a roadmap of core priorities for your Strategic Aims at Age UK and being accountable for outcomes and impact.
- Through your work as part of the wider executive team, ensure that all we do promotes a supportive, empowering culture of mutual respect, making Age UK a great place to work where people can fulfil their potential and flourish.
